Most of the people you are marketing will not join your business, now or even never. As a matter of fact, the industry average that gets touted around is 95% will say “no”. Now, you say “..but Teresa some of those may change their mind, over time” and that is true but, again, it is small numbers. A good marketer knows that the numbers need to keep coming for awhile until you generate a solid base of customers and partners to create a desired income level.

So what do you do with the large numbers that do not join your venture or buy your product? Follow me for a minute. We know it is harder to find that match between a specific product, opportunity, company or service and an individual’s desires and needs, right? I don’t know about you but most people who respond to my marketing efforts are home business owners, entrepreneurs looking for additional streams of income or newbies who are interested in learning more about the industry.

My products or businesses may not always hit the mark the first time viewed and that is ok because I am looking for serious partnerships and that could take time to develop. However, everyone needs help with marketing and generating leads on-line. So if I can help them with generating leads and growing as an internet marketer, I have made a friend and a better prospect for my business, right?

When I started marketing on-line, MLSP, My Lead System Pro, was the best resource I found. The government favors and rewards businesses in the tax code. Actually, tax deductions equal between 20 and 45% savings on everything you can justify for business expense. Deduct meals, travel, medical, vehicle usage, home office, income shifting and more. The deductions create a cash flow that you never have to pay back. Remember, there are only 2 tax codes in America. One for business owners and W2. The government wants you to succeed and will even subsidize your losses. Currently you can carry back a lost for 2 years or carry it forward for up to 20 years so you never lose a properly documented deduction. All the government cares is that you document and run your business properly and try to make money.

My friend was amazed when the speaker said that the IRS saw no difference between a home-based business and a brick and mortar business like IBM. However, 84% of small business owners overpay their taxes by an estimated $150B per year and most of them (93%) didn’t realize it. Why? Lack of education and tools. Lack of documentation and procrastination, lost or faded receipts.

A word of caution here. Conduct your business like a business by documenting your activities correctly and pursue a profit. It would make sense to review your business activities with a CPA or tax attorney to ensure you have the correct process setup for tax accounting. It could make a big difference in your bottom line. Accurate tax planning can be as big an advantage as the additional income created by having a small home based business for the average American family.

A great phone app that can simplify the data collection is taxbot, created by Sandy Botkin, CPA and Tax Attorney extordinaire. It is available on iPhone and Audroid and will simplify your data collection and definitely increase your tax deductions.

1. A setup blog site which is optimized with google, can be customized with your content (blog, video, graphics) and has become one of the top authority sites in 4 months. This is the cheapest way to create traffic to wherever you want to send it on-line.
2. Advanced training platform for internet marketing available that is so current you won’t find it in a book or a public presentation. If you plan on being in business in the near future, you need to be able to market on-line.
3. Residual income based upon 100% commissions and an automated marketing system with the highest conversion rate on the internet. It doesn’t take many sales to develop a nice monthly income.

My second week I earned $1700 in commissions and $1200 was monthly residual. What did I do? I shared it with six business owners and bloggers. I used to think that people who talked earnestly of anarchy, living off grid, no trust in banks, having guns with live rounds in bed with them, etc. were weird and unsocial. I still do but I have to agree that there is truth in what they say. No matter how paranoid they are, large monied interests have taken over through brainwashing a good percentage of the public to vote against their own interest. They point the finger at so-called “socialist” policy while picking our pockets with the other hand. How do they do this? They lie and they broadcast those lies over and over and over.

How does a small percentage of wealth (less than 10% of 1%) control over 90% of the assets in country…much like any of third world country you can identify? They simply use the assets to create more assets through ruling the public airways, influencing legislation, and keeping divisive issues front and center with the remaining 99.9%. See, in all theory, a democracy with 99% in majority should be a democracy but if that 99.9% is fighting and backstabbing, they rule completely.

So here is where my tirade ends…if you are still reading, I apologize. Here is what I am doing. I am trying hard to extricate myself from the rigging of the .1 of 1% system. Banking – small local, credit unions and/or multinational. No mortgage. Controlled consumer debt. Insurance – only mandated and reasonable premiums because I know that the insurance company will not pay if anything major happens to me anyway. So for me, I am not participating in long term care policies, cancer policies, etc. I choose not to live in fear. I choose to take great care of myself and not to depend fully on the healthcare system in this country because it may not be there anyway. So don’t pay if you can’t afford it. Personal wealth – I do not buy in the myth still perpetrated by financial planners, brokers, bankers, etc. about savings, etc. Why have a pile of money saved for elder years when the financial institutions can write themselves a check on it at any time. I would rather work with other independent souls and create a residual income that is bullet proof.

Who wants to worry about assets, liquid or not..sitting in the market. Be free and opt-out with me. It may take time. I started my plan ten years ago but it was worth it. The powers that be want ordinary people to give up, go away and let them have the field. I say we stand tall, link arms and work together to create space for us with a new economy on that field. An Economy that they do not have the levers for. After all, who wants to worry about assets, liquid or not..sitting in the market. Be free and opt-out with me. So can we agree that every enterprise from a church to a computer store, is there to add value and derive a financial return for that value. If the cost of doing business is higher than the perceived value, it will soon be out of business.

So the small business owner or entrepreneur has two main objectives.

1. Deliver real value to the marketplace.
2. Promote and sell that value to the marketplace.

Delivering Value –

This is a very large topic but just as “beauty”; value is in the eye of the beholder not the creator. This is the simplest and best advice I can give. Let me explain. Most small businesses or started due to a skill-set, desire or passion of the owner. That is fine but often it is not enough. I have seen hundreds of business failures due to a disconnect between the business delivery and its market. Few businesses have a valid realistic business plan. Being overly optimistic about sales, lack of competitive analysis and a real understanding of their customers. Also, making choices based upon cost like cheaper real estate but poorer location. Spending more time up front analyzing the market, thorough understanding of all the costs and developing a good sales strategy before you start are important. Then plan on working hard for at least five to ten years.

Promoting and Selling the Value -

This never ends. The old rule of thumb was people may need seven contacts before they purchase anything so a new business needs to build those contacts fast and make them valuable! On the internet, they are saying you have 3 seconds to capture their attention before they leave your site. Coupons…contests…hosting events all help to build traffic. Whether you are on-line or off-line, traffic is important. Location is important. The customer experience is important. A business owner must be open to opportunity for additional markets and sales as they occur. If you are a candy shop and there is a local holiday or festival, try to include something that supports the festivities such as a special ice cream or chocolate or T shirt.

As a marketing coach, I know we don’t have a lot of time to get it right and that most enterprises will simply not survive if they don’t get it right in the near term. I have learned how to create income with almost any enterprise today while we are designing and creating the future long-term income stream. As a management consultant. I felt happier as the business analyst who worked with the sales team to determine the requirements, design the solution and develop the client’s project. I relieved that I didn’t have to sell. Over drinks one evening I mentioned this to the sales lead as we were celebrating another client decision to purchase a 6-figure project. He roared with laughter in response and I will never forget what he said. Everybody sells. We got this job because of the you. You brought the content and the context. Your credibility, knowledge and relationship building made them comfortable with us. Their decision was just the formality of how we would move forward. Ummmm…I was a sales person, after all.

I think back on that day all the time and realize that everybody sells all the time. Regardless if they have a pitch, product or service. I know sales has a bad image for many people and I don’t know why. Well, actually there are people who are over the top with enthusiasm but I find they can be easily soothed by a simple “not interested”. Usually they will move on to the next person because they are interested in getting to a “yes” and they know it is a numbers thing; i.e. present to enough people and you will find someone who is interested. So why do people shrink from sales people? I think it is because they lack the self confidence to listen with an open mind and then feel free to accept or decline. They project their own lack of self-knowledge and confidence on any individual selling something.

Returning to blogging and the people who blog….

There are millions of blogs on-line now which are purely self-indulgent and vague. I find them and wonder why are they blogging? There is no perceived value to the reader; no new information; no clever point of view; no big “aha” for themost part. Why do they do it? Are their lives so important that the must be shared? Just more mental clutter for the rest of us. I also love the seducing “I am above commercial enterprise…If you love me as I love to blog about me, please send me a donation. So begging is more honorable than sales?? Are you kidding me?

On a blog post, I look for the point. I also look for bloggers who have something of value to say, are serious about moving thought or action forward, and not just regurgitating their day. The later is about as productive as belly button contemplation. So I look quickly for the point. What is the primary thing that makes the difference? Are you ready??? Here it is. It is a clear call to action. Donate here; Buy this; Attend this; Go here; Watch this; Support this; etc. A clear call to action following a creative, well written blog post that makes a point, paints a picture or sets the stage will leave me satisfied as a reader. I might not fulfill your call to action but I understand what you are trying to do with your blog. That helps me to understand the blogger more and isn’t that the beginning of a relationship? I may come back and learn more about you and your project.

Blogging regularly is an effort and to do it well takes skill and commitment. It takes content and, often, research and thoughtfulness. Personally, I think blogs are generally a higher quality when they are monetized and the bloggers are paid for their services. Today, there are even blogging platforms which build traffic and income for bloggers, leaving them free to focus on value-added musings.

Don’t get me wrong…I enjoy the occasional blog post on a day outing with the kids and the funny thing daddy did in the water. Just try not to make an entire blog out of it. People may thank you.

There are millions of websites and blogs sitting on the internet with great information and producs, yet largely unvisited because people can’t find them.  Is your site lost on the information highway? No wonder. The king of search, Google, only has room for 10 organic searches on the first page. Studies show that the #1 listing on page 1 of google will get 41% of the searches that come to that page. I don’t remember the rest of the breakdown but the #2 position gets the majority and the remainder is split with all of the ads, etc. Forget about page 2 and beyond.

Getting back to my recent experience. Here’s the proof…

After spending months and thousands of dollars investigating training, mentors, tools, etc. I found that it all takes time! Steep learning curves, continued advertising investments, more tools and interfaces, etc. That is all fine and I am committed to long term learning and growth but I need money for today, too!

I shocked my sister the other day when I told her that every day I wake up thinking about how much time I have left in this life with the best of expectations…you know..fully healthy until dies in sleep at 95 or so…Then I back it off with diseases that might happen and then I back it off with accidents, blindness, stroke and other maladies that could occur. I leave nothing out. My sister said she never had these thoughts and that I was depressing her. I disagree.

As a pragmatist, these thoughts don’t depress me…they motivate me. They make me truly appreciate my health, my abilities, my circumstances and most of all…the day. The brilliant opportunity to do something fabulous, something good, something kind, something loving, something helpful, etc.Its my mantra, my motivation.

As a solo entrepreneur Motivation is critical and although money is important,  it is the currency that makes everything possible. I have learned to think in terms of deeds and tasks that I want to accomplish, rather than the money I want to earn. The deeds and tasks usually have a budget and therefore, a money figure but I stay focused on the deed because it is more tangible. I can see an improvement in my work space, my home, children who need food, etc.

I spent many years, maybe too many ,  as a management consultant and the biggest problem people had to completing tasks was that they could not commit to a time frame. They over thought every “what if” there could possibly because accountability in the corporate world can be deadly and that is unfortunate. Its not a bad practice to consider potential obstacles but try not to build them into the equation. By committing to a time line or time  frame, we simply are more committed.  It becomes more real and I think everyone agrees that commitment is important to make any real change happen.

So here is the point….we are all committed. We are all going to leave this life at each of our appointed hours. So even if it never crosses your mind, you have a commitment. Its a beautiful thing. Treat every day as a wonderful gift, feel good and share it. Put a plan together even if you alter and change it, it is so much better than not having one.

Many people are feeling the pinch of this economy but money is not the problem. Money is there. It is still there but if you are still investing your time and $$ in the economy of the past, that is rigged against the average people.  I help average people join the economy of the future.
